Merry on Main was a public holiday event commissioned by the City of Mesa, featuring a 100-drone show designed to engage the community with festive, animated visuals. I worked as part of the creative team to ideate the show’s visual narrative and translate conceptual designs into drone-ready assets.
I designed four of the featured figures in the performance—including the bell ornament, a hoppy cactus with a Santa hat, and the ASU and MIX Center logos. Given the limited 100-drone count, I focused on creating readable, stylized silhouettes optimized for low spatial resolution, while maintaining visual charm and thematic clarity.
In addition to my own design work, I served as a liaison between Pulse Drones and the student designers from the DSC 494: Designing Drone Shows course, ensuring each asset met production constraints and was technically show-ready. This involved reviewing designs, addressing structural limitations, and maintaining a cohesive visual language across all elements.
The project was enthusiastically received by attendees, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community. The show not only showcased creative storytelling through emerging technology but also demonstrated the potential for drone art as a public, shared experience.
