NATURE MAGAZINE COVER DESIGN
PROJECT TYPE
3D Artist
SOFTWARE
Blender & Photoshop
As a research assistant in the Mediated X Lab, I was commissioned to design a magazine cover submission for Nature. The concept centered around transforming a scientific point cloud dataset into a visually compelling 3D render, with emphasis on the motion, structure, and color palette used by the research team to represent their discovery.
To inform the visual direction, I conducted an in-depth review of existing Nature covers, studying the aesthetic “code” that often characterizes accepted submissions—clean composition, clarity at small scale, and strong visual hierarchy. Based on this research, I developed a high-resolution, crisp render with selective pops of bright color to highlight the data points and convey a sense of energy and movement, while maintaining a minimalist, editorial elegance.
My role focused exclusively on the visual and artistic interpretation of the provided dataset. I translated the raw scientific material into a visually striking image optimized for cover-level impact, without contributing to or representing the scientific content itself.
