Illumina VR is an immersive and interactive virtual reality experience developed using Unreal Engine 5. Designed as a proof of concept for the larger Vitrum Lux project, Illumina VR takes users on a unique journey through the world of stained glass art, blending historical artistry with modern immersive technology.
Set in a mystical castle with a large stained glass window, the experience invites users to interact with six buttons, each labeled with a chemical historically used to color stained glass. Pressing each button triggers a specific light color that simulates the glass pigmentation created by elements like Cobalt, Manganese, and Selenium. This experience not only educates users on the chemistry behind stained glass but also celebrates the artistic intent that uses light and color to evoke emotion and reflection.
As the creator and lead designer of Illumina VR, my role involved conceptualizing and developing the immersive experience, blending historical inspiration with virtual creativity. The project is rooted in my deep appreciation for stained glass as an art form and my goal to extend the legacy of artists like Joan Vila-Grau, who continued the work of Gaudí through color and light. With Illumina VR, I aimed to offer both an educational tool and a sensory experience, where art, science, and spirituality come together in a beautifully interactive environment.
